14-Year-Old Previously Charged with Murder Transferred to Adult Court

December 27, 2023, Peoria, IL – Last Friday, a Peoria County judge granted the State’s Petition to Transfer to Adult Court for a 14-year-old who was previously charged with murder. Byron A. Jarvis will now be tried as an adult for First-Degree Murder in the August shooting death of Dahvie P. Brown-Bey, 17.  A detention hearing was held today, and the judge ordered Jarvis to remain in the custody of the Peoria County Juvenile Detention Center until trial.

As previously released, just before 8 p.m. on August 22, Jarvis fired four shots at Brown-Bey in front of several bystanders, including a 10-year-old and a 13-year-old. A video of the incident showed three of the shots were fired at Brown-Bey's head from point-blank range.
