First-Degree Murder Charge Filed in Death of Peoria Teen

A Peoria man, Tramier Pate, 23, was charged today with First-Degree Murder for shooting Omarius Gates in the back and killing him. Gates was only 14 years old.

Monday night Peoria Police were called to the intersection of Richwoods and Molleck on a report of a male being shot. A witness identified Pate as the shooter and said that he tried to rob Gates of a gun. When interviewed by police, Pate admitted that he stuck a gun in Gates’ back, said, “Give up the gun,” and that his gun accidentally went off. The gun on Gates was a toy gun made to look like a real one. He died at the scene.

Pate is being held at the Peoria County Jail. His bond hearing is set for Thursday, July 6, 2023.
