In an emotionally filled courtroom today, Clayton T. Bell was sentenced to 14 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for a DUI crash that took the life of Mia Duseck. The 15-year-old Bartonville teen was one of four passengers in the car that night. In a video played for the court, she could be heard screaming from the back seat moments before the crash, along with the front seat passenger begging Bell to slow down and “value your life!”
Bell,18, pled guilty on March 16, 2023, to the charges of Aggravated DUI and Reckless Homicide for the single-vehicle crash at 6700 W. Pfieffer Road in late February 2022. Bell had a B.A.C of .14 and was estimated to be driving around 80 mph in a 35-mph zone.
Assistant State’s Attorney Brenda McCavitt passionately argued for the maximum sentence of 14 years in prison. The Honorable Judge John Vespa agreed. The bailiffs immediately took Bell into custody to begin serving his sentence.
