Peoria City/County Health Department is partnering with local arts nonprofit Big Picture Peoria to commemorate the history of the Peoria City/County Health Department building with an art piece depicting the current facility. The building, slated for demolition this spring to make way for a new Peoria County Health & Human Services Campus, has been in use for more than 70 years.
The resulting artwork will be displayed at the new campus. Artists are invited to submit examples of their work. The artist who is selected will receive a $1,000 stipend. Entries are due by January 29, 2023.
Monica Hendrickson, Public Health Administrator, Peoria City/County Health Department remarks:
Our goal for this art piece is to commemorate the history of the original Peoria City/County Health Department. As an anchor institution in our community for more than seven decades, generations of individuals have come through our doors and have relied on our care. Through this piece, we hope not only to recognize these years of service to our residents, but also have it serve as a reminder that we must continue to build on this legacy of improving the lives of all individuals in Peoria County.
