The Peoria County Board approved the new map at their Special Board Meeting on November 30, 2021. Districts officially changed with the general election on November 8, 2022. On the interactive map, you can find:

Process

Every 10 years following the decennial census, legislative bodies must redraw their boundaries to take into account population change. For the Peoria County Board, this means its 18 districts must be redrawn to accommodate changes. The 2020 census population of Peoria County is 181,830. Each of the 18 districts comprises approximately 10,000 people.

The proposed map was built using census block data and took into account demographics and jurisdictional boundaries of local entities, such as cities and townships. The board has until December 31, 2021, to approve a new map of its 18 districts that reflects the change in population. Voter registration data was expressly not used.

Timeline for Implementation

  • October 26, 2021: Proposed map presented to the Peoria County Board Redistricting Committee and made available publicly.
  • November 4, 2021: Alternate maps proposed for District 14 and 16 were released. These maps are posted in the Viewing section above, listed as Version 2.
  • November 11, 2021: A Redistricting Committee Meeting was held Thursday, November 11 at 5 pm. Members of the public are invited and encouraged to attend and submit public comments on the proposed map to the committee.
  • November 30, 2021: A Redistricting Committee Meeting was held on Tuesday, November 30 at 3:30 pm. 
  • November 30, 2021: A Special Peoria County Board Meeting was held on Tuesday, November 30 at 4:00 pm, where board members approved a final map.
