The 2022 Peoria County Household Hazardous Waste Collection will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2022.  The event remains APPOINTMENT ONLY in order to regulate traffic flow more evenly. Registration is open through Noon on May 6, unless slots fill up earlier.

The event, which we dub "HHW", takes place at Expo Gardens, the site where the Heart of Illinois Fair is held. It is located at 1601 W Northmoor Road, between Allen Road and University Street.  Please access Expo Gardens through Northmoor Road, to facilitate traffic flow.

About the Event

PARTICIPATION IS OPEN TO ILLINOIS RESIDENTS: Illinois regulations mandate that only residential wastes may be collected—no business or commercially generated wastes can be accepted.

ITEMS ACCEPTED: Oil-based paints, yard care chemicals, mercury-containing items, CFLs and fluorescent tubes, harsh household cleaners, poisons, spray paints, used motor oil, antifreeze, old gasoline, and other aerosols, medicines, and corrosives. ITEMS NOT ACCEPTED: Latex paint, tires, agricultural chemicals, propane tanks, business wastes, smoke detectors, explosives, farm machinery oil, fireworks, fire extinguishers, lead-acid batteries, medical wastes, sharps, and needles.

LATEX PAINT IS NOT ACCEPTED AT HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE EVENTS: Dispose of latex paint safely and legally by drying it out completely and then putting it in the trash. Add kitty litter, shredded paper, or other absorbents for quick drying.

HELP YOUR NEIGHBORS AND CARPOOL YOUR HHW: Help keep the lines short and wait to a minimum by bringing materials from multiple households in one car. Please help neighbors who are elderly, have mobility restrictions, or do not have cars.

VOLUNTEER:  This event needs volunteers to help direct traffic throughout the event. For more information about volunteering, send an email to with your name, contact information, and shift preference. Scheduled shifts are: 7:15am-10:15am / 10am-1pm / 12:30pm-3:30pm
